Would like to weigh in on the two school of thoughts around work as purpose vs job. I would argue that for a personality/audience driven vocation, it normally takes some time to mature and produce a significant income stream. I would advise young people to have a career in addition to the vocation in the early years, and then drop the former once the vocation matures to be a profession. If that does not happen, you have a backup
These categories do resonate! I've had to tone down my "yes" bias a lot, though I also don't regret 90% of the things I have said yes to. I particularly like the "upside maximize" vs "downsize minimize" framing. Risk tolerance has always been a slippery concept for me, because I have a high risk tolerance with my career but a lower risk tolerance with others things in my life, like money. Reframing it in terms of upside/downside, I'm more clearly an upside maximizer.
